DaF - German as a Foreign Language - Courses - Non-Degree Courses

Studienbegleitend

Our non-degree courses ("study-accompanying German language courses") offer international students as well as Erasmus and other exchange students enrolled at a university in Regensburg the opportunity to improve their German and boost their academic achievements.

Our Courses

The comprehensive curriculum covers language levels A1 to C2 and helps students improve their German while building on the skills they already have. Our German courses cover a wide range of essential skills, such as reading, listening, writing, and speaking. At the same time, we want students to experience German culture up close. To this end, we offer classes on cultural studies and literature and film seminars.

A special class ist “Babylon”, the international theater class at the Department of German as a Foreign Language. Students can also improve their German by making use of our Department’s online classes or the online courses offered by the Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (vhb).

Study-accompanying German language courses

Please note that there are two categories of courses:

  • Face-to-face courses, which take place in a class room on campus at a specific time. Individual sessions of theses courses may be held in a digital format.
  • Online courses without a fixed date (indication of the rhythm of the courses: "n.V." = by arrangement with the teacher), most of which are conducted in an asynchronous mode. In these courses, you can learn largely autonomously and independently of time and receive tutorial support from a teacher. In some of these courses there are also virtual meetings with the teacher via Zoom. In these sessions via Zoom the focus is on your questions and you can practice your oral language skills. The dates for the synchronous meetings are set in consultation with the course participants during the first week of the course.

Requirements

Our non-degree program is aimed at international students or Erasmus and other exchange students at Universität Regensburg and OTH Regensburg.

If capacities are available, international PhD students, visiting scholars and staff of UR can also participate in the non-degree German courses.

Transcript of Records and ECTS

After successfully completing a course, students get a "Schein" with ECTS credits and grades. In general, students are awarded 1.5 - 2 credit points per one weekly hour per semester (SWS = 1 semester period per week) for attending one of our non-degree courses. The criteria for getting ECTS credits are as follows:

  • regular attendance (at least 75%)
  • active participation in class
  • successful completion of all the required course assessment (e.g. tests)

Thespecific number of ECTS that can be earned in a course is indicated for each course in the course catalog.

Students also earn a final grade that is independent of the ECTS credits they are awarded. This grade has no influence on the number of ECTS credits that students obtain.
