Mein Hauptforschungsinteresse besteht darin zu verstehen, warum Kinder, Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene hochgradig dysfunktionale Verhaltensweisen wie zum Beispiel gestörtes Ess- oder zwanghaftes Bewegungsverhalten trotz der damit verbundenen langfristigen negativen Konsequenzen zeigen. Ich bin überzeugt, dass ein besseres Verständnis der kurzfristig verstärkenden Konsequenzen (z.B. Reduktion negativer Gefühle, soziale Aufmerksamkeit) und wie diese das dysfunktionale Verhalten aufrecht erhalten zur Entwicklung besserer funktionaler Modelle psychischer Störungen beitragen kann. Wenn diese Modelle idiosynkratisch, dass heißt individualisiert, erstellt werden, können sie wichtige Ansatzpunkte für personalisierte psychotherapeutische Interventionen liefern. Momentan liegt ein Schwerpunkt meiner Arbeit auf Essstörungen. In der Forschung nutze ich längsschnittliche und experimentelle Methoden sowie Ecological Momentary Assessments zur Erfassung individueller Funktionen gestörten Ess- und zwanghaften Bewegungsverhaltens im Labor und im Alltag.
In Verbindung mit der psychotherapeutischen Hochschulambulanz für Kinder und Jugendliche entsteht aktuell ein weiterer Forschungsschwerpunkt, in dem wir digitale Tools zum individualisierten Monitoring und Therapiefeedback in der Kinder- und Jugendlichenpsychotherapie evaluieren. Wir versprechen uns dadurch, frühzeitig Schwierigkeiten im Psychotherapieverlauf zu erkennen und an die Therapeutinnen und Therapeuten rückzumelden, um so Psychotherapie weiter zu personalisieren und zu verbessern.
