The faculty mourns the death of Prof. Dr. Ingo Morgenstern, who passed away on 24.012.2020. Professor Morgenstern initially worked very successfully on computer simulations of dilute magnetic systems. Very soon he realized that the methods developed here were also very well suited for solving optimization problems of any kind, e.g. for route and production planning, but also for portfolio management and the prediction of stock market crashes. From this he developed the educational program in econophysics in our faculty, which was very well received by our students. We will always keep a honorable memory of Mr. Morgenstern.

It is with great regret that we have learned the news of the death of Professor Dr. Gustav Obermair. Prof. Obermair held the Chair of Theoretical Physics for more than thirty years and was instrumental in establishing the Faculty of Physics. From October 1971 to September 1973, he headed the University of Regensburg as Rector.
