Clinical Traineeship (Famulatur)


After passing the First Part of the Medicine Examination, a four-month clinical traineeship (§ 1 paragraph 2 sentence 1 number 4 ÄApprO) must be completed before registering for the Second Part of the Medicine Examination.

The clinical traineeship is completed

1. for a period of one month in an outpatient healthcare facility run by a doctor or in a suitable medical practice,
2. for a period of one month in a hospital or an inpatient rehabilitation facility,
3. for a period of one month in a GP care facility and
4. for a period of one month in one of the facilities listed in points 1 to 3 or another suitable facility, including public health care facilities, in which medical activities are carried out.

There are various support programmes, e.g. through the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Bavaria (Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Bayerns KVB).

The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Bavaria (Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Bayerns KVB) supports clinical traineeships in rural regions every semester.
