Exciting and challenging weeks are lying ahead of the University Library: after 30 years, a new library management system is just around the corner - FOLIO.
FOLIO is an open source library management system that the library community has been working on intensively nationally and internationally in recent years.
As so-called next generation system, FOLIO will secure the viability of university libraries by its modularity, openness, transparency and cooperative development. Ensuring future viability is of immense importance, not least due to the digital transformation in the library sector and the many dynamic developments at universities ... more
Preparations for the migration to the new library system FOLIO in March 2025 require restrictions on inter-library loans from December 2024.
To avoid a temporary suspension of the inter-library loan service, the University Library has been working intensively on alternative solutions for the past weeks. As a result, the University Library is still participating in the inter-library loan, but the system requires shortened loan periods from December. Furthermore, there may be longer waiting times for the provision of ordered media items. In addition, inter-library loan books will increasingly have reading room restrictions (inspection only in the General Reading Room). This particularly affects inter-library loans which arrive between mid-December and mid-January.
We will keep you informed of further developments.
Thank you for your understanding.
At the time of migration, only University Library holdings may be booked on University Library user accounts. For this reason, loan periods for inter-library loans and for holdings of the OTH and the Regional State Library of Regensburg will be reduced:
As a first step, UR members can only borrow holdings from the OTH and Regional State Library for a maximum of two weeks without renewal until mid-December 2024. Reservations for those holdings are no longer possible.
From mid-December, we will have to suspend the local lending services with the OTH library, the Regional State Libray and the IOS library for the time being.
If you need holdings from these libraries, you can apply for a library card for the respective library. Then you can borrow the holdings on site using this new library card with the usual loan periods.
After the migration, we will continue the local lending services with other libraries as quickly as possible. The library card of the respective institution will still be necessary for borrowing holdings on site.
We will keep you informed of further developments.
Thank you for your understanding.
