We study pre-meiotic stages of maize male flower development and the influence of development on plant-pathogen interactions.
Thereby, we address important problems in plant reproductive organ development and phytopathology. In the long run, these studies may provide new ways to control male fertility, pollen drift from genetically modified organisms, as well as elucidating new mechanisms of plant resistance. Ultimately, this could contribute to yield increases and lower seed production costs.
